Honeymoons are more often than not an afterthought to the planning of the wedding itself, when, in terms of memories, they are just as significant as your day in church.
Initially decide what your goals are for the time you’ll be away and what you can and can’t live without. Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? What is most important to you? Cost, adventure, sightseeing, weather, etc. Talk over honeymoon ideas with your partner, talk about locations, undertake some online research and seek opinions from family and friends.
Trips to secluded beach resorts or islands remain the most popular choice, and for good reason. Such trips mean that you can spend quality time together whilst relaxing from the busy timetable of the previous six months and losing yourselves in beautiful surroundings.
Another option is to take a cruise; they give you the same quiet, relaxing experience whilst at the same time making it possible to visit a host of different locations. Should you have a preference for a more action-packed honeymoon, give consideration to a mountain resort or an adventure travel trip (such as backpacking or a safari).
As for honeymoon locations, consider the following: Australia, Bahamas, Bali, Canada, Costa Rica, Egypt, France, Hawaii, Maldives, Seychelles, Spain.
Whichever type of location and honeymoon you choose, look to make reservations at least six months in advance so that you’ll have the pick of the rooms, and can begin planning for your time away. Ask your hotel if they offer a special honeymoon package available to enhance your time away; extras such as the honeymoon suite, iced champagne and bouquets of flowers can make it even more memorable.
As soon as your hotel is arranged, starting researching and booking tours, tickets, restaurant seats, and various other activities that require advance reservations, especially if you’re going on your honeymoon in the summer months (bear in mind that different locations will have different peak seasons). Try not to over-plan though as plenty of free time should be left available, in the first few days especially, in which you can just enjoy each others company without any other distractions.
Your overall objective should be to make your honeymoon stand out from any other vacation. Along with your normal vacation items, try taking some fun extras with you, like romantic music, candles, bubble bath, massage lotion and lingerie. Finally, don’t forget to take a video camera and pocket camera with you, so you can look back on your special time together forever.
