Every year, at this same time, the sun starts to stay up a little longer, the breezes start to warm up a bit, and the birds songs start sounding more friendly. With all this happening around us, we can start to clean out the winter cobwebs, both from our heads and our closets. Fresh new attitudes and designs start to appear with interesting color combinations and materials.
In keeping with positive excitement – color is the name of the game this spring and we are seeing lots and lots of yellow ” and not pale yellows, rather deep yellows such as marigold and bright lemon yellows (I sense the first ladys influence here). Since yellow is not everyones favourite color, you might want to try accessorizing with handbags, shoes or chunky jewellery.
Dresses ” spring is always good for new dresses. This year we are seeing that just about anything goes. 1960s inspired shifts, romantic flowing dresses in a Grecian style, and lots of dresses that are off the shoulder. For the evening, dont go out without a roaring 20s flapper dress ” modern style of course. Believe me, fringe is the in thing.
Pants-watch for Relaxed fit, both for dress and casual wear. The loose leg with a graceful taper to the ankle will surely be turning some heads. This year pants are all about comfort.
Jumpsuits-believe it or not, are making a comeback today. One piece outfits that fit comfortably and flatter with tapered or flare legs will be hot this year. Watch for lots of cleavage and plunging necklines with a light top underneath.
Jeans-they have never left the fashion world, but this year, as was last year, the old beat up strained denim is once again a strong competitor for the fashion dollar. A few small holes add to the statement.
Jackets-a completion to any outfit, short jackets with embroidery made from velvets and high textured materials will always serve you well over a blouse or top. They are finding their way into both casual and evening wear categories.
Accessories – jumbo, thick jewellery is all the frenzy and worth picking up. Wide belts are in, boots and strappy sandals.
As for my favourite designer Marc Jacobs, he has an amazing collection this spring. While at first glance everything appears to be mix-matched, at second glance everything works together. His clothes are colourful, dramatic with strips metallic brocade and even plaid. Look for not only his amazing clothes but shoes, bags, hats and belts.
Watch this space for the Paris Fall 2009 feedback; rumour has it that this fall will see a departure from complex designs. Settling for more classic hand tailored designs with clean cut lines and bold contrasts. But who really knows, we will all have to wait. Until next time!
